Canada Long Weekend and Giveaway Winner

W

ednesday evening
the hubby and I and 5 of our closest friends left the city to go camping for the weekend. On the way out of town we picked up some Wendy's for dinner. I had two mini burgers (kid's burgers):

We arrived at the campground, set up, cracked a beer, and visited around the fire. We stayed up really late, and made smokies around 2 am. I had 1.

CANADA DAY

Thursday was Canada Day!

We were all kinds of festive.

Breakfast was egg in a hole and sausage:

Lunch was maple smokies. We were going to have maple glazed salmon for dinner, but the rain was coming down too hard. We drove to the campground store for a really unhealthy dinner :-)

I had 1/2 a piece of pizza that was so disgusting, that I don't even want to show a picture. It was cold, and the cheese was hard. The hubby and I also shared a topped fries and a crispy crunch twister:

I drank some wine, beer, coffee, and juice throughout each day. I also snacked on chips, a few chocolate chip cookies, and some seeds.

Friday morning the hubby made a scrambled egg mixture (veggies, cheese, eggs) and bacon:

I had a grape juice box with it (one per day):

We had bacon mushroom cheeseburgers for lunch. I had one.

Dinner was maple glazed, pepper crusted salmon and veggie skewers, with salad:

The mosquitoes were SO bad that we went through 4 bottles of mosquito spray between 5 of us, in 3.5 days.

Our friend even bought a mosquito head net as a joke ...

Ridiculous.

The spiders were brutal too. I was scared.

On Saturday morning we had pancakes. Lunch was Velveeta mac and cheese, and dinner was ribs, sweet potatoes, and veggies.

Sunday morning we packed up and went for breakfast to the restaurant in the town near the campsite. It was not a very good breakfast. The coffee smelled strongly of cleaning products, so we had to send it back. Our gravy was also cold, and jello-like. We told the waitress it was cold, and she took it away, then came back with the same, cold gravy. It was inedible. I was quite disappointed because we always go to this restaurant on our last day of camping, and we were really looking forward to it. I choked down 2/3 of my cold food.

Dinner at home was a small bowl of red pepper, black bean soup and some potstickers:

I wasn't feeling great all day yesterday. I had a headache, and the sun and heat was making me feel nauseated. Throughout the evening my headache got worse and worse, and by about 9:30 I was vomiting. I went to bed early, and feel much better this morning.

I made a stabilizing breakfast of chai tea latte oatmeal (3/4 cup unsweetened almond breeze, 1/4 cup spiced black tea concentrate from Starbucks, 1/2 cup quick oats, 1 T cinnamon raisin PB, 1 t maple flakes):

Sounds like a nice trip if not for the bad restaurant food and choking down a bottle of cancer spray each :-)

nothing worse than anticipating a great meal out..and getting served mediocre, at best. sorry girl that sucks!

the pic of you w/ the coffee is cute :)

fave holiday is probably Xmas or Halloween. B/c of my childhood memories, not for any deep reasons or anything :) I talked about this on my blog, lacking true connections to holiday but am working on it

I'm sorry you had heatstroke! I get that too. :(

Camping looked fun though! Despite the bugs, camping was always one of my favourite summer activities. Although, we didn't eat as gourmet as you did! KD, hot dogs, marshmallows, and canned foods were our specialties. ;)
