Rainy Sunday

It's a good thing we spent the day outside yesterday, because the rain is coming down hard today.  It rained throughout the night, and hasn't let up all day.  We've been cuddled inside, enjoying the fact that at least the car and windows are getting a wash.

Last night we BBQd coconut crusted halibut, crab claws, and a vegetable medley:

S'mores for dessert!

I'm a little worried about our flowers, as they have had nothing but rain and cool weather since they were planted.  Our little grass growing experiment is coming along nicely though ...

Off to enjoy a calzone sized homemade perogy!

How's your Sunday?  Is it pouring rain where you are?

Celebrate Good Times C'Mon!

As of yesterday, I'm on holidays for the next 57 days.  If that's not reason enough to celebrate, I don't know what is!  The celebrating started on Thursday evening when we got together with work peeps for some delicious Ukrainian eats:

On the last day of work we went to BPs for lunch.  I had my favourite, the perogy stomboli with spinach salad.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Boston Pizza is the BEST chain restaurant.

Then we visited with pals Bonnie & Warren for a few hours ...

Before heading to Thai Basil to feast on incredible Thai food.

The salted, crispy chicken is one of my favourite dishes in the world.  If you haven't been to this restaurant, and you live in town, you must fix that problem ASAP.

This morning we had fruit, cottage cheese, and toasted homemade bread, with coffee.

We then spent a couple hours tooling around town, buying supplies to celebrate some more this evening

The afternoon was spent visiting in the backyard with gangsta rap, fancy wine, cheeses, and sashimi

Just when I think life can't get any better ... it does.

What are you up to this weekend?

Celebrating: The First Day of Summer

To celebrate the first day of summer on Saturday, we ate a lot of delicious, summery foods.  We feasted on ...

Deviled eggs:

Seafood pasta salad:

A cucumber salad:

Bruschetta (on freshly toasted crostini):

We also had some new (to us) cheeses:

As well as grilled chicken skewers and lobster tails:

For dessert, there were fresh-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookies:

Ready to go in!
And fruit pizza:

We were full, tired, and ready to call it a night after a long day, and a LOT of food!  Sunday, we just relaxed, and stopped by what we've decided will be our new local watering hole, the Western Pizza down the street.  We shared some lasagna and wings, and had leftovers for lunch the next day.

How was your weekend?
Did you do anything to celebrate the first day of summer?

This Week's Eats

Earlier this week we took my dad out for a belated fathers' day dinner to Bombay.  We shared a couple of appetizers:

My dad got a butter chicken platter, that came with a wide variety of dishes.  I ordered chicken korma, and some biryani to share.

The Hottest Curry in Regina caught Christopher's eye, especially since the menu said there is a 10% discount if you finish the dish!  He doesn't like to let food "beat him", so that's what he ordered.

He was done in no time, and we got 10% off of the bill

Breakfast all week was watermelon and cottage cheese:

Light and refreshing - just the kind of breakfast I've been craving these days.

Yesterday we visited on the deck after work, and ended up eating dinner outside too.  I'm thinking this is going to happen a lot over the next couple months; we have to take advantage of our short spring/summer season.

Tomorrow is the first day of summer, and we have delicious dinner plans.  The rest of the weekend will be spent relaxing in the yard, as long as the rain stays away.

How was your week?  Any fun weekend plans?

10 on Tuesday

1)  I got about 10 hours of sleep last night, and I still had a really hard time getting up this morning.  This hasn't happened to me in a long time, but the last two weeks or so, I've needed so much sleep.  Someone is ready for holidays!

2)  Lunch the other day was hot and sour soup from Thai Basil.  This restaurant is insanely good.  Their crispy, salted chicken is one of the best things I've ever eaten.

3)  I'm looking forward to attending two weddings this summer!  Daaaaaaaancing!

4)  For dinner on Friday we went to The Artful Dodger for pizza.  I had the bacon mushroom pizza, and it was really good.  Christopher had the anchovie pizza, and it was terrible :-(

5)  My sister's new cat Finn is pretty much the cutest thing ever.  I just. can't. take. it. anymore.

6)  A lovely lady that Christopher delivers to gives him Epicure products every year at Christmas, as a thank you.  We recently tried some of the BLT dip seasoning, and it was great!  We had some other random snacks while having a rainy, movie day inside.

7)  Family brunch for fathers' day on Sunday at Thomas the Cook:

It was really good!  I loved that the potatoes were not fried.

8)  Last night we BBQd rack of lamb for dinner.  We had it with veggies and potatoes:

9)  Spring time means Froyo!  Gotta love those bobba balls!

10)  We had hotdogs twice on the weekend.  Ummm, is it bad that I am not sick of hotdogs

Dear Christopher,

For future reference, please don't read the nutritional information on the Costco hotdog label aloud to me.

When it comes to hotdogs, ignorance is bliss.

Love,

Jolene

(His reply would probably include something about how I probably shouldn't be buying hotdogs with 3456 grams of fat.  Yeah, yeah).

What are your Tuesday things?
Do you have any weddings to attend this summer?
Hotdogs are healthy, riiiiight?

Backyard Oasis

We've been spending a lot of time outside lately, seeding patches of the lawn, trimming shrubs, planting flowers, and buying landscaping supplies to touch things up:

We still have a bit of work to do, but we always have fun doing it.  And when we're done workin', we relax, and enjoy.

We plan on hiding away in our backyard oasis a lot this summer.

Have you had a hotdog or smore yet this summer?
