5k ReCap

I

had the worst sleep last night. I woke up in a panic, thinking that I had slept through my morning alarm and missed my race. I looked at the clock, and saw that it was 2:00 a.m.. This happened every half hour for the rest of the night!

I finally got up at 7:00 a.m. and headed out to pick up my race package. I fueled up with some oatmeal (toppings: 1/2 banana, 1 T maple PB, 1 t maple flakes, 1 scoop chia seeds, 4 macaroon chocolates). I also had 1 cup of coffee, and a tall glass of water.

I took off on my 5k race at 9:00, feeling great. Each km took me roughly the same amount of time (approx. 7 minutes), and I finished with a time of 35:01. This was earlier than my hubby and family expected, and they almost missed my finish!

I am VERY happy with this time!!

I have also decided, that although it was sort of fun to race ... I don't really like running. It isn't for me. I might do another 5k sometime, but I don't see myself doing anything more than that.

After the race, I quickly got showered and ready to head to Saskatoon to see my mom. We stopped on the way for lunch at a small town family restaurant. I had an egg salad sandwich and half of the fries:

We had a good visit with my mom, and then headed home around dinner time. We ate Thai food before going on the road. The hubby and I shared a tofu peanut curry, and a chicken red curry with rice:

This weekend was jam-packed, and I can't believe it is already time to go back to work tomorrow!

Today is also my dad's 69th Birthday!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!! We went out last night to celebrate.

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Congrats on the 5k! Since you found out that running isn't your thing, have you ever tried cycling? It's a great workout but much easier on the knees.

I would have to say that the highlight of my weekend was a 40-mile bike ride through the mountains in Florence. It was super tough but really good for training.

Cheers,
Amanda

I knew you could do it!! That time rocks! :) So happy your fam made it just in time. One time P almost missed me, but he looked up and snapped one picture as I darted through the croud. I didn't see him though so I was really disappointed until I finally found him and he told me he did see me cross! I think the highlight of my weekend would have to be figuring out I can run again with no crazy heart issues. I still have to go to the cardiologist in a few weeks, but I'm pretty sure he'll give me the green light! Have a good day!

Congratulations on finishing your first 5k! It's a wonderful achievement and with such a great time too!

Racing/Running isn't for everyone. But, a slow, easy run is a great way to unwind sometimes :)

I got out for my first bike ride of the 'summer' (it's still chilly here where I am) this weekend, that was definitely the highlight.

Well at least you gave running an honest try even running the 5k before giving it the heave-ho. Congrats on running a great race considering you had been lacking on your training!

Happy birthday to your daddy!! :-)

And yes, you did great on your 5K! I think it's totally okay not to like running... There is SO much more to exercise than running, and not everyone likes the same thing!

Gosh. Thai curry sounds SO good right now.

Congrats on completing a 5K and in a wicked amount of time!!

I had bad sleep last night, I think it has to do with the weather. I was awake every 30-60 minutes and just tossed and turned!

Congratulations on your race!!! But I think it's good that you're realizing that running just isn't for you; I think too many people think that they have to run or should run for some reason, when there are plenty of other exercise activities that they enjoy a lot more!

Congrats!! A first race is always super exciting. I'm sure you felt really great when you crossed the finish line and your family was there.

I had a hard time sleeping the night before my race too. Just when you really do need the sleep too! I hear you on the running. Every time I sign up for a race, I question myself b/c I don't LOVE to run.

Nicely done Jo! Knew you could do it and do it in a solid time! Congratulations! Still hope we can do some easy jogging together around the lake sometime though.

My whole extended weekend has been so wonderful - visiting with my brother in Vancouver, spending time with my mom and dad who I joined here, catching up with family and friends we have not seen for 13 years! What a blessing to have an opportunity to see everyone. Coming home tonight to my hubby and pup will be a great highlight too though!
