Eats and Things

Sometimes we cook elaborate, multi-course dinners ...

And sometimes we have fish sticks and tater tots for dinner.

You know, balance.

It started to snow (blah) earlier this week, which had us craving warm, comforting foods.  This is way too early for snow, and we weren't ready for it at all.  Our flower pots and patio furniture are covered in the white stuff, and they look rather depressed.  Eats this week included a veggie pizza:

Spaghetti with turkey meatballs:

Pulled pork sandwiches:

We almost never use our slow-cooker, but our sister-in-law Mel has a recipe for pulled pork that is so easy.  You just throw root beer and the pork into the slow-cooker, let it do it's thing for hours, then mix the pork with BBQ sauce once done.  We didn't have root beer on hand, so we used 7-up, and it was still super awesome.  I think Coke, root beer, Sprite, 7-up, beer, etc. would all work quite well.  The pork was super juicy and tender.  We used a giant chunk of pork loin for this recipe.

I did some baking this week, including a super, ridiculously moist white cake, with a butterscotch shortbread crumb topping, and some bread.

We went out on Thursday evening, because Christopher's band, Lunar Lander Dance Commander, was playing:

He is a bass player in this band, but ...

He still gets to hit his drums a bit too.

Last night we enjoyed bee bim bop for dinner:

And this morning is off to a good start with oatmeal.

It's Thanksgiving in Canada this Sunday, but as it turns out, we're not doing Thanksgiving dinner this weekend.  We unfortunately have a funeral to attend today for a dear friend of mine who left us way too soon, and then tomorrow Christopher's parents are having us over to celebrate both of our birthdays which are coming up on the 15th and 17th.

How was your week?  What are you up to this weekend?

I'm so sorry to hear that you had a funeral to attend, especially since it was for a young friend. Life is not fair at times. :(

I can't believe you already have snow! I hope it melts fast as it's too early for that kind of weather! It's been cooler here but still really nice. I'm hoping we don't have snow for at least another month or two as I'm not ready for that kind of weather!

All your eats sounds so good! We need to make pulled pork soon as that one of our favorite things to eat and there are so many ways you can use it - like pulled pork nachos!! Yum!!

I hope you guys have a wonderful birthday weekend - it's so cool that your birthday as so close together! Last week kind of felt like a blur as I was pretty busy at work and had several evenings where I had things going on. This weekend was kind of busy, too, as I was gone for most of the day on Saturday and I wasn't around all that much on Sunday either. But we leave for our Bend, Oregon trip this week so I'm focusing on that getaway to get me through the next 2 days of work!!!
