Weekend Away

On Friday evening we caught a flight to Edmonton.  In the airport we had shared a little pizza for dinner.

We were in Edmonton in no time, and caught a shuttle right to our hotel.  The airport is really far from downtown (about a $70 cab ride), but we booked a shuttle for two, which included to and from fare, for a total of $60.  Not bad!  We were at our hotel within about 45 minutes from landing.  We stayed at The Sutton Place Hotel downtown, which is really nice.  We found out it's actually connected to City Center Mall, which is super convenient, because we didn't rent a car.  It was nice to be able to grab some supplies (snacks, etc.) from the mall to take back to our room.

We were upgraded to an executive suite, which was a nice surprise.

The next morning we headed down to Borden Park for an outdoor music festival, Sonic Boom.

In the afternoon K-OS and Kongos stood out for us; they were fantastic!

We shared some food throughout the day.

The best performance of the evening was definitely Hozier.  He's absolutely amazing.  I think he gained a bunch of new fans after his incredible performance.

We skipped the headliner (Ellie Golding), because we really weren't interested in seeing her.  It was about 9:30 by the time we got back to our hotel.  We shared two appetizers in Chop, the restaurant in the lobby.

On Sunday morning we ate breakfast at Chop before heading back to the park for another day of music.

We heard a band we weren't familiar with, The Zolas, and they were really good.  We also saw Eagles of Death Metal, Mother Mother, The Flaming Lips, among many others.  The best of the day, however, was definitely Tenacious D

We shared some lunch/dinner:

It was rainy and cool all day Sunday, so we spent a lot of time trying to stay warm.

Even though the weather didn't cooperate, we made the best of it, and still had a lot of fun.  We skipped the headliner again because Alexisonfire isn't our style.  Actually both evenings, at least 1/3 of the crowd seemed to clear out before the headliners.

This morning we slept in a bit, enjoyed a nice breakfast in the hotel, and then our shuttle picked us up to take us to the airport.  All in all, we had a really great weekend away, and we're looking forward to another little getaway next weekend.

How was your long-weekend?  What did you do?

Sounds like a fun weekend full of great music and yummy food! That is a bummer that it rained but that's great that you made the most of it despite the crappy weather that day! I had an awesome weekend visiting Amber in Kamloops!
