Cooooooookie

The other day Christopher was wondering why there was a random bag of mini m&ms in the freezer.  Welllll, it's because if I have those on hand at all times, these cookies can be made without me having to go out and get any other ingredients.  They are easy to whip up when dessert or a treat is needed in a hurry.

For the same reason, I always have chocolate chips in the freezer.

Cookies are a good thing.

A very good thing.

Is there any dessert that you make with ingredients that you always have on hand?

Thursday Things

1)  We've gotten a little bored of our usual weekend breakfasts, so this past weekend we switched to sandwiches

2)  One of my all-time favourite dishes is spaghetti and meat sauce/meatballs.  This past week I made a large batch of sauce to use some for my lunches, and then froze some for another time.

3)  I tried the udon soup at Edo Japan and thought it was really good, especially with a LOT of hot sauce in it.

4)  We've been BBQing all week and enjoying the heat!  Last night it was a white fish stuffed with crab and scallops (fell apart on the BBQ) and a rice/veggie pilaf.

5)  Our appetizer was tuna sashimi.

6)  A couple of days ago we had lamb sausage with beets and salad

7)  I loved looking at these pictures of what families around the world eat in a week.

8)  Speaking of the world, this is pretty crazy to watch.

Perfect Weekend

My weekend started out with a pretty fantastic Friday in which I spent time with a bunch of friends and saw some great bands.  On Saturday I went and sat on the patio of one of my favourite restaurants and enjoyed a sushi bowl ...

while watching my favourite local band play a killer acoustic set.

The weather was perfect to sit out on a patio and enjoy good food, drinks, and tunes.

After the show, we headed out to celebrate a friend's birthday.  We sang a little karaoke and did a little dancing.  When the photos from the evening turn out like this, you know it was a fun night:

Sunday afternoon/evening was spent soaking up sun in the backyard at a family dinner.

This past weekend was the last of my holidays before going back to work, and it could not have been any better.  What a great way to end off my summer holidays!

How was your weekend?

Wonderful Wednesday

I was up at 7:30 this morning and out of the house by 8:15.  First up was breakfast at The Mercury.

Next was the farmers' market, and iced coffee, mmmmm!  I bought a bunch of beets and zucchini at the market, as well as some lamb sausage.

This evening we BBQd again.  We had duck breasts (fat scored; marinated in 1/4 cup balsamic, 1/4 cup veggie broth, 1.5 T fresh ginger, 1-2 T honey), a bit of the lamb sausage and ginger noodles.

The duck was perfectly cooked, with a nice, crispy skin.

To drink we juiced pineapple, pear, ginger and beet.

This was a great dinner!  On the BBQ tomorrow ... maybe fish or something vegetarian.

What is your favourite food to BBQ?

10 on Tuesday

1)  How awesome is this?  I know, I know, I couldn't believe it either.

2)  Dear Sweetheart, I'd like to do a week of sandwiches again.  I sort of went ahead and planned out the week  ;-)  Yay?

3)  Yesterday I went for a walk with my sister and nephew, and today we hit the pool.  Summer, please don't go away.  Ever.

4)  I made Christopher a key lime pie the other day, and he dug right in.  No plate necessary!

5)  Last time I was at the Korean grocery store I found these:

Mmmm, spicy kimchi dumplings!  I just fried them up for about 10 minutes in a bit of sesame oil.

6)  Congratulations to my friends Jeff and Alaina who had a baby girl yesterday!!  I can't wait to meet her!

7)  They may have grown a baby, but I grew this:

Ummmmmmm ...

It was born Thursday, August 15th.  It's 172g.  Christopher caught it.  He's pretty much a doctor.

8)  I took my dad out to Lancaster's and tried their Vietnamese sub.  I couldn't finish it all, but I was really impressed.  I'd definitely order this again.  The wasabi mayo and cilantro totally made the sandwich.  They gave me some sort of cheesey garlicy dip for the fries which was really good too, although my dad thought it was narsty.  We had a good chat about music from the Beatles to Nirvana.

9)  I want this for breakfast; simple, yet sounds so delicious.

10)  I've mentioned this before, but I love, love, love world maps.  I like things with pictures of the world map on them; I like globes; I want a world map as an art piece on my wall, etc..  Anywhoooo, this site pretty much made my day the other day.  It helps you make sense of the world using, you guessed it, world maps.  You're welcome.

What are some of your Tuesday things?

BBQing Seafood!

We are BBQing all week!  It's gorgeous outside, the propane tank is full, and we are going to take advantage of what's left of summer.

This evening we had scallops, squid, veggies and potatoes.

The squid was whole, so we gave it a good rinse, dried it well, and cut it into rings.  We kept it pretty simple with butter, garlic and fresh herbs.

The scallops were rubbed with shallot olive oil and sprinkled with salt (*after rinsing, removing the side muscle, and drying well).

Mmmmm, I forgot how much I love scallops!

What have you BBQd lately?
Do you like scallops? Squid?
