I love to travel. I also love to eat. We're headed to the United States in March, and there are a few foods I'm excited to try, and some that I plan to smuggle back home in my suitcase.
Papa John's Pizza
I'm looking forward to trying this pizza as it comes highly recommended by someone awesome. Have you had Papa Johns? What do you order?
ROT*EL
This stuff is not available in Canada, yet I've seen it called for in many recipes.
Kraft Macaroni & Cheese in the new Pinwheel Shape!
Why don't we have this!? I need. Everyone loves pinwheel shaped noooooodles.
Pinkberry
I tried Pinkberry for the first time in New York a few years ago, and had to get it each time I was back in New York. Fro Yo is not a big thing in my city, and I don't think there are any Pinkberry stores in Canada.
Fried Chicken
You can't get real, true, just-like-my-southern-momma-used-to-make, fried chicken here. Not even close. Does KFC count? I'm so excited to try some good fried chicken at Willie Mae's Scotch House in New Orleans this Spring. I'm also excited to try grits and okra for the first time!
Cheap Food/Drinks
Beverages and food in general seem to be much cheaper in the United States than in Canada - even at Whole Foods. Speaking of Whole Foods, I always find a bunch of new foods there that I like to bring home with me.
Cherry Coke
This one's for the boy ;-) We can't buy Cherry Coke here. (*As an aside - our Mountain Dew in Canada is caffeine free).
What food can you not get where you live but you miss or want to try?

I found cherry coke at the grocery store the other day - it was in the "english" section... very random!
Also Barney Butter!!!!!!!! Yum!!! :)
They don't have ketchup chips there apparently, which is weird! :)
I really like Papa John's! It reminds me of college. It's one of the best fast food pizzas, and I love it cold the next day :)
We also have really good fried chicken in Oklahoma. It's actually not my thing, but I always take out of towners there when they visit.
We don't have Sonic in DC, which is my all time fave drive thru place back home. They had the best hangover food!
Wait a second - Mountain Dew is caffeine free? That doesn't seem right! ;) I've heard so much about Pinkberry but haven't tried it - I wish they would open one in PA. I've had Papa John's, but I don't feel like they are anything special. They are good, don't get me wrong, but they remind me of an upscale Domino's, if that makes sense!
happy eating :)
Ah! Love this post.
I use Rotel in many different recipes - soups, hot cheese dips, enchildadas. That stuff is great!
And Papa John's pizza is good and cheap. I love the garlic butter dipping sauce you get with it.
Enjoy your stay down south!
This made me giggle because it's so regional. Other than Pinkberry and, I assume, Cherry Coke I don't think much of that stuff is readily available in the NYC area. Also, you get Maltesers!!! So jealous of that.
Whenever I go to Denmark or have a Danish friends coming over here I make them bring Toms Guldkaramellers which are the most amazing chocolate covered caramels ever and these licorice toffees that I love. Also, when I'm there I eat as much cheese, milk and butter as I can!
I can't think of anything that I wish I could get here. As for the cherry coke...it use to be sold here but the sales sucked so no point selling it here!
Thanks for coming back and all your nice comments! :)
You have to go to Yogurtland. And I know several "best" fried chicken place you have to visit. Papa John's? Meh.
Where in USA will you be? LOS ANGELES?!!
I hope you also pick up some Mexican pan de dulce here!
Caffeine free Mountain Dew? That is crazy!!
I can't get smarties in the US, so I usually treat myself to some when I am in Canada!
The one thing on your list that I can really get down with is cheap drinks. And food is cheaper too, I agree - I notice it especially at restaurants.
Papa Johns...really? I have to say that I've had much better pizza here but then again I'm not a pizza expert so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about?
Where are you headed in the USA?
Stay away from Papa Johns...LOL. Not that great :)
If you want anything from your list that I can send in a box I would be more than willing. Just let me know :)

Nothing can compare to the more expensive tools which
are made from high-grade tempered steel. They are comfortable, they do not get too hot,
they provide protection from various hazards such as my gravel road, and
unlike some competitors they are not prone to smelling bad.
It depends, at least in part, on the class river you're going to be headed out to raft.
