Gloomy Day

When I woke up this morning, I noticed it was much darker than it had been as of late.  The usual morning sun wasn't shining brightly through the kitchen window.  I opened the door and peeked outside; it was gloomy, and rain was near.  Today was the first dreary day this summer, so I figured it was the perfect day to curl up inside and relax.

Breakfast was a bowl of cheesy grits, cherries, and a few cups of coffee.

I didn't go on my usual walk, and didn't visit the farmers' market, but instead surfed the internet, and had Big Brother After Dark playing in the background.  I didn't even get out of my pajamas until about 3:30 p.m.

Ahhhhhhhhh, holidays.

I served up a comforting lunch when Christopher came home at noon.  I thought it was a great day to make chicken and dumplings.

I followed this recipe.  It turned out beautifully, and I loved the soft buttermilk dumplings.  There's plenty left to have for lunch tomorrow too.

The power was out for a good part of the afternoon, so I spent time reading.  This evening we plan on snacking, watching movies, and making popcorn.  I love cozy days!

How has your day been?  How's your week going so far?

Yum, that looks like such a yummy, comforting meal. We have your weather today as it's dark, overcast, and rainy. We really need the rain so I am actually ok with it, especially since it's happening during the week and not the weekend!

I need to bookmark that recipe to try sometime this fall/winter. I think it would work well with GF flour since dumplings are really dense. I love comforting 'stick to your bones' meals like that!

My week has been going fast as I've been busy at work and had plans on Mon and Tues nights. I'm ready for the weekend, though!!!

That looks amazing! It is hazy hot and humid here. The only thing I want to eat is cold watermelon and anything that does not require me to use a stove lol!
