Holidays!

On Friday after work Christopher and I got some snacks ready and headed to the back yard.  This is always how we celebrate the start of my summer holidays.

I had the absolute best work year, which makes the celebration even nicer.

We spent the evening visiting, laughing, and snacking, while soaking in the humidity and sunshine.  It was perfect.

On the side-burner of the BBQ, we cooked up some halloumi cheese with tomatoes, olives, herbs, and olive oil.

It was delicious served over baguette slices.

Other than hitting the farmer's market yesterday, we didn't do much else.  I made 1-hour cinnamon buns, which were okay, but not as good as my mom's which take many hours.  You can't rush good food.

We had more outside time yesterday, watched some Netflix (A User's Guide to Cheating Death is really interesting), and did some more snacking.

For dinner we made a Thai dish - more on that in the next post.

It's a long weekend since tomorrow is Canada day.  We're looking forward to taking part in some festivities tomorrow to celebrate.

What are you up to this weekend?

Yay for being on holidays! The Canadian school schedule is so different! Where I grew up in North Dakota, we went back to school in mid-August and were done right before Memorial Day weekend, which is the last weekend of May. In Minnesota school starts the day after Labor Day (which is the first Monday in Sept) and most schools get out in the first week of June. You guys must have more breaks or something? In MN they get about 1.5-2 weeks for Christmas and a week for spring break and then some other random days off. In ND we had no long break besides the 1.5-2 weeks at Christmas!

Your backyard is so pretty. You have such a big deck! Sounds like your summer is off to a good start! We need to check out the Netflix show you mentioned!
