A Week of Meals

Last weekend when we got home from Saskatoon, and before our plumbing issues started, Christopher made dak galbi for dinner while I worked on the pavlova for dessert.

The leftovers were lunches for a couple of days.

On Monday evening I BBQd burgers and made salad, while Christopher fixed the broken tap/sprinkler hose hook-up on the side of the house.

Dinner on Tuesday evening was a large salad with chickpeas (1/2 can).

On Wednesday evening we had salmon and sweet potato fries, with a grainy mustard dip.

The rest of the chickpeas were great in Thursday's chili dinner.

Chili is even better the next day, and we both enjoyed it for lunch on Friday.

Last night we BBQd some wild duck that our friends Jessie and Chris had given us a while back.  We thawed it, soaked it in milk and soy sauce (to reduce the gaminess), and then dried it well, seasoned it with salt and pepper, and threw it on the grill.

After chopping it up, we used the duck in hard tacos with mango chutney, seaweed, and kimchi.

These tacos might sound weird, but they were great!  We figured the sweet chutney would pair well with the spicy/sour kimchi, the savoury duck, and the salty seaweed.  It was a great combination, and I think Christopher devoured about five tacos!

Breakfasts most of last week included toasted, homemade bread with fruit on the side.

We cleaned the house and did laundry on Thursday, and got groceries on Friday, so this weekend we can just relax, snack, and enjoy each other's company.  We're trying a couple new meals in the next few days, so those will be coming up in posts this week.

What are you up this weekend?
Did you make any delicious eats last week?
Have you ever had wild duck?

I have had wild pheasant as my dad and brothers used to hunt pheasant when I still lived at home but I have not had wild duck. I've had duck in restaurants in France, though, and it was really good. It's such a rich meat!

I did not do much cooking this past week as we had so much leftover from when my sister was here as I made pasta one night and Indian food the next time. We got about 5 more meals out of the tikka masala and it's been amazing as leftovers! I'll finish it off for lunch today. Then yesterday was Julia Child Night! I got to my brothers around 11 and we started working right away and worked up until the guests started to come at 4. Most of the dishes had to be cooked to order so we kept cooking through out the night. We sat down for dinner around 5 and the dessert course was served around 9:45 so it was quite a long night! But super fun and delicious!
