Ukranian, German and Hungarian

I've been eating a lot of delicious Ukrainian, German and Hungarian food lately.  It started when I made German cabbage rolls on Wednesday evening.  I made a big batch and froze half of them.  These ones made it into the fridge for Thursday's dinner.

I served 'em up with perogies and a spicy sausage that was smoked at a local Ukrainian grocery store.

On Friday evening I went to a friend's surprise 30th birthday party at the Hungarian club in town.  The food was fabulous and included cabbage rolls, sausage and other snacky snacks.

Delicious Hungarian eats.

After a fun time at the Hungarian club we decided to do some karaoke in a karaoke room at a restaurant called Sake.

Sunday's dinner was a tofu goulash with some Hungarian paprika paste that we picked up on Friday, as well as plenty of red wine and veggies.

Have you ever had goulash?  What were you up to on the weekend?

My dad is Serbian and many of these meals (including goulash) are very similar to what I group up eating!

The perogies, cabbage rolls and sausage that I eat now are different than the ones I grew up on (well mainly just the sausage, ha ha!), but it is like...the perfect meal. All of my awesome family memories are compressed into those foods!

Karaoke at sake is SO fun, and we're always such lushes that we end up getting the room for free. :) It's been a while since I've had goulash! Yours has more veggies than most versions. :)

My mom used to make something that she called goulash, but it was more Italian-ish so I don't think it was the real thing. That looks great and I want to try the authentic version ASAP!

I tried goulash when I was in traveling in Prague. It reminded me of some of the hotdishes we had growing up - at least that is what they were called in North Dakota. I think other areas call them casseroles.

I had a very uneventful weekend. I was super sick so spent the entire weekend laying on the couch. I did treat myself to thai delivery, though, as I thought maybe some spicy food would help with the congestion.
