Epic Cookie Battle Results

I seem to be quite lucky when it comes to choosing recipes ... most of the time they turn out well.  This was not an exception when I chose the 5 recipes to include in my epic cookie battle.  Each cookie was really good - although I am a bit biased as I loooooooove chocolate chip cookies, and I don't think I have met one that I didn't like.

My original plan was to do a final post describing each cookie and ranking them from 1-5 ... what I didn't anticipate was that the cookies would taste so similar!  The recipes are different, however all of the cookies, with the exception of the double chocolate ones taste nearly identical to me.  This made choosing a favourite very difficult.

I will give you my thoughts on each cookie and then choose my favourite and the hubby's favourite, which he felt more strongly about than I did.

This dough was easy to work with and the cookies looked really good.  I liked that they were still gooey in the middle, although after they cooled off they were not gooey anymore!?  They were very chocolatey, although not the best double chocolate cookie I have ever had.  Next time I make a double chocolate cookie I will stick with this other recipe.

These cookies tasted great, but lose points for ugliness.  I don't think I will make them again because, although they were good, my family recipe is better and never turns out ugly.

This dough was very easy to work with and the cookies looked really pretty.  The cookie was soft, not crumbly, and each cookie looked perfect.  I would definitely make these again, although next time I would use chopped chocolate instead of chocolate chips.

This dough was pretty much impossible to scoop out after refrigerating for the 24-72 hours the recipe calls for.  It was really annoying trying to roll this dough into balls, however the dough tasted incredible!  I would venture to say it was the best cookie dough I have ever tasted.  The cookies looked pretty much perfect as they came out of the oven, but I found them a little too sweet for my liking, and far too crumbly.

This is a really easy recipe.  The ingredient list is basic, calling for things that I always have on hand.  I whipped these up in minutes.  They tasted almost identical to cookie #2, but they are better because they are not ugly.

I did a final taste test and forced the hubby to do the same (tough life hey?)  and these are the results ...

The hubby's favourite cookie is Cookie #4.  He liked the crumbs and the sweetness of this NY Times recipe.  Ha, I just think he misses NY :-)

My favourite was cookie #3, which is very similar to #4 but easier to work with and not crumbly.  I liked the look of these cookies and I think that kids would really like them because they are BIG!

Now that my sweet tooth has been satisfied for about a month, I think my next battle will have to be with something savoury - any suggestions?

Off the the gym and then dinner with friends tonight!

What are you up to on this beautiful Saturday?

Interesting that you find the NYT cookies crumbly. Right there, that's a deal breaker for me. I wonder if it had to do with the (long) refrigeration time and the dough got a smidge too dry? Who knows..

I do know that ppl RAVE about that recipe...and the Cooks Illstrusted recipe which I have never followed to a T, but should.

The #3 with how huge they are...I wonder if you could scale them down a bit in size? Not necessary but sometimes I like making smaller cookies. And sometimes big ones!

Thank you SO MUCH for this week of posts and this final recap post. It's been my fave week EVER on your blog...thank you!!!!

Next up for savory, eh? One epic battle is chili. However, you'd have to halve or quarter the batches unless you want to be eating chili til Xmas. I never know which recipe to I rarely make it!

mmmm I would have to try each one out before saying anything ;) haha but the double chocolate one looks amazing! I'd have to have a big glass of milk with that!

hmm for your next battle...I think it should be possibly soup recipes, chilli, chicken recipes...something like that!

I was so lazy yesterday (Saturday)...I just talked to my man and watched movies all day , haha...hope you had a good one!

Choosing a favorite cookie sounds harder than Sophie's Choice.

That would have been tough to pick a winner!

I spent my Saturday studying and then relaxed in the evening and finished a book (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close)
