Hippie Dust

Hippie Dust: (AKA Nooch) "Nutritional yeast, the pungent yellow vitamin B-12-filled flakes loved by vegans everywhere. It tastes delicious in cheezy sauces and many other dishes.  Oh no, I'm out of nooch! However will I make macaroni and cheeze?" (Definition from Urban Dictionary).

I have come across many recipes that use nutritional yeast, so I thought I would give one a try today.  For dinner I made One-Pot Gluten Free Vegan Mac and Cheese.  I had to buy a couple of new ingredients first (nutritional yeast & arrowroot).  I love trying new foods and interesting ingredients!

It was very easy to make, and it turned out really well.  The hubby liked it too and wants to try the sauce on noodles (we used quinoa this time). We had spinach salad on the side.

This morning I ate banana maple walnut oatmeal, and then for lunch I had 1 slice of toast (homemade bread) and some veggies (Brussels and cauliflower).

Have you ever tried nutritional yeast?  When it comes to foods are you a "try anything once" kind of person, or do you like to stick to what you know?

I will try most foods, but no strange animals parts or anything with mold.

I love trying new things but I end up buying bags of flours and bran and end up just using it once then it's a waste of money and space in my pantry!! :(

Haha, I love that definition! I only use nooch as a popcorn topping, it just tastes fake in everything else to me!

I love nutritional yeast! I don't handle lactose very well so getting the cheesiness from nooch makes me very happy.

Oh that looks so intriguing! I always get good ideas here :)

Y'know I've never tried Nooch...but I know I should - I eat enough cheese and dairy to feed an army and to kill my intestines :(

I bought a bag of nutritional yeast in the summer to try it for the first time... and it is still unopened. I am SO BAD for doing that. I buy new products all the time with the best of intentions, but then I'm too scared to actually eat them...

Mimi left a tub for me before she left. I'm not sure what I feel about it. Nooch def has a nice, distinct taste, but it's just....blah texturally. There is no texture, no gooeyness of cheese!

You are so healthy. I feel like a slacker. The quinoa sounds great!

I have tried nooch. I put it on popcorn one time. I like it... I want to love it though.
