Canada Day!

Yesterday was Canada's 150th birthday!  We had a jam-packed day, and it was a great way to start off my summer holidays!  Christopher made a light breakfast in the morning, and then at around 11:30 a.m. we went over to his parents' place for a family gathering.

Our adorable nieces played in a bouncy house, tried out a little red convertible, and blew bubbles:

There was ice cream:

There were snacks:

All things Canadian:

And KFC!

We had a nice visit with the family, and got some hugs and kisses from the nieces.  After the family get-together, we went straight downtown, where Christopher's band was playing for the 150 celebrations.  After unloading equipment, we wandered the park, had an iced coffee on a patio, and hung out in the green room for a while to cool off ...

We had a bunch of friends and family show up for the show, some seeing LLDC for the first time, including two of our nieces!  Thank you to all who came out; we appreciate it!

Lunar Lander Dance Commander put on a rockin' show!!

Immediately following the show, we ripped home so Christopher could shower, and then we changed and were on our way to TwentyTen Eatery.  We took the elevator 20 floors up the tallest building in town, to enjoy dinner on the rooftop, followed by Canada day fireworks.

They were putting on a 13 course dinner, a taste for each of the 13 provinces/territories in Canada.

It included wine pairings for the 2nd/3rd/4th courses plated together, the 6th/7th/8th courses plated together, and the 10th/11th/12th courses, which were also plated together.  This way, the 13 courses actually became seven courses.

The dishes were as follows:

Manitoba: authentic hand made bannock, with Saskatoon butter and hummus

British Columbia: beet-cured sockeye salmon with B.C. cherry compote on beet greens
Nunavut: candied Arctic char on an heirloom tomato salad
Newfoundland/Labrador: smoked cod with pee puree & spicy corn relish

Prince Edward Island: poached Canadian lobster on creamy potato salad

New Brunswick: beausoleil oyster rockefeller with sea asparagus
Nova Scotia: seared scallop with wild blueberry sauce
Yukon: morel mushroom and grilled asparagus salad

Saskatchewan: Saskatoon rhubarb granita

North West Territories: bison striploin with Saskatoon demi glaze on sauteed wild mushrooms
Alberta: AAA beef tenderloin with pickled mustard seeds on beluga lentils
Ontario: smoked quail with a peach bourbon sauce

Quebec: Dessert churro poutine with house-made marshmallows, and maple caramel sauce

After dinner we had the best seats in the house for the fireworks, which were being launched from the lake right across from our view.

The fireworks were good, but there was a drone hovering over and touching down at our party, which stole some of the attention.  Haha!  What a time to be alive ...

It was a beautiful day and evening, and a fabulous way to start out my two months off!  Since it's a long weekend, we still have today and tomorrow to celebrate, which is exactly what we're going to do.

Is it a long weekend where you are?  If you're Canadian, did you partake in any of the Canada day festivities?
What are you up to this weekend?

Oh my gosh that dinner sounds INCREDIBLE!!! Such a cool way to celebrate Canada Day!

I didn't do anything too exciting, just went to the parade and to a BBQ at my aunts house. I did wear red and white too! :)

You guys had a fun day of celebrating! Looked like so much fun, though! That dinner looks and sounds fantastic!

We were at my parents' lake home Fri-Sun. My parents hosted my dad's side of the family on Saturday and there were 45 of us there so it was quite the huge group! It was fun to see everyone, especially my grandma as I hadn't seen her since my wedding shower (she didn't feel strong enough to come to Minneapolis for my wedding, sadly - she is 94 afterall). We came back Sunday as we both had to work on Monday but were off yesterday. We went to Phil's moms for dinner and grilled brats from the deli where we had our rehearsal dinner and had corn on the cob and potatoes. It was a simple but delicious meal!
