I Want to Wake up in a City that Doesn't Sleep

On Saturday morning we grabbed bagels and coffee from Murray's Bagels in Chelsea.

We had to check out the Chelsea Hotel.  It was built between 1883 and 1885, and has been home to the likes of Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Jimi Hendrix, Mark Twain, Jean-Paul Sartre, Frida Kahlo ... and the list goes on, and on.  It has so much history, as well as a bit of a sad history, as it's where Dylan Thomas died, and where Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols killed his girlfriend Nancy.  The hotel is still in operation, but they were under renovations when we came by.

We did a lot of walking through Chelsea, West Village, Greenwich Village, and the lower east side on Saturday.  We had a little snack at Boqueria.

On our travels we came across Electric Lady Studios, a recording studio originally built by Jimi Hendrix.  Numerous people and groups have recorded there, among them, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Kiss, The Strokes, Daft Punk, The Roots, U2, etc., etc..

In the evening we headed out to Buddakan, one of Stephen Starr's amazing restaurants.  This was one of the best meals we've ever had.  The restaurant is gorgeous (I only discovered in researching it later, that it was where Carrie and Big had their rehearsal dinner in the first SATC movie).

We started with pork dumplings, which were insanely good.

Then we shared duck noodles, Chinese sausage fried rice, and a meat dish that we cannot remember the name of ... it was all fantastic!

After dinner we went to hear live music at Club Groove.  We had so much fun, and were out pretty late.

We picked up snacks on the way back to the room.

We had a great Saturday, and we'll definitely return to Buddakan for a meal in the future.

How are you friends?  What have you been up to?

Looks like another fun day in the city that never sleeps! I love that you incorporated some musical history sites along the way!

My week has been ok. The weather has been crappy which kind of makes me cranky!
