Happy April!

Tonight we fired up the grill for the first time this year!  It is a month earlier than we were able to last year, so that's a nice treat.  We BBQd something we very rarely eat, steak.

Caesar salad, garlic bread, and baked potato on the side:

We had a nice weekend away, spending time with my mom.

Breakfast in our hotel:

And out:

And two Chinese dinners:

I think this was our first time going out for hot pot.  We went to Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot, and thought it was quite good.  You pay an all you-can-eat price, and pay for your pot of broth (or two broths, for half-and-half), and then you order as many protein foods, veggies, and noodles as you want, and cook them up in the broth.

A couple of recent meals at home were these nachos, with more cilantro than most people would like to see:

And stuffed pasta shells:

Alright, I'm off to watch a TV show before bed.  My new favourite is One Strange Rock on Netflix; it's one of the most fascinating, engaging shows I've ever watched.  We just finished, and are going to go back and re-watch all the episodes again.

How was your weekend?  What did you do?
Have you ever had hot pot?
What are you watching on Netflix?

We made Pot Au Feu for Julia Child Night one year but that is the only time I've had a 'hot pot' kind of meal. We often watch PBS cooking shows on the weekend and one of the shows on Saturday afternoon featured a hot pot so it was funny to open your blog and see you talking about it!

Our weekend was nice. It was pretty low key which is what I need these days! I didn't do much cooking as we had leftovers from the week to work through. I did make shrimp bowls with rice noodles on Friday night. Those were really good! We had steak this weekend, too, as we went out for a date night at a steak house. We never go to steak houses but we had a gift certificate to a local place downtown. The meal was good but we both agreed we would never spend out own money for a meal at a steakhouse!

Right now we are watching a show called Longmire. It's kind of a western-style show. My parents and another friend recommended it to us. It's pretty good and the episodes are about 40 minutes which is the right length for a week night, although we've barely watched any lately as I've been opting to read instead. Another friend recommended Russian Dolls to us so we might check that out, and we'll have to check out the show you recommended!
