Holidays

It's official.  I am on holidays for two months ... and they are off to a great start!

We kicked off the break on Friday around 11:30 with lunch at the boss' house.  I had a small sub with some seafood pasta salad.  It was the most beautiful day (made even more beautiful by the fact that it was my last for quite some time).

Following lunch was a 2 hour road trip to see Jill Barber in concert at the Broadway Theatre.

If you don't know of Jill Barber, click here and then here and here and here.

You're welcome.

Saturday involved a rhubarb mint julep and spinach speatzle at Flip, one of my new favourite restaurants.  The julep was a refreshing drink for a hot summer day, and I can't wait to recreate it at home.

The rest of the long weekend can best be described as lazy and delicious.

I am always at a loss for what to do with so much spare time over the summer.  I want to be productive.

What would you do with 2 months off?  How would you spend your days if you didn't have to go to work and had no responsibilities?

A rhubarb mint julep and spinach speatzle pretty much sounds like the greatest thing ever.

If I had two months off (and could afford it) I'd do nothing but travel.

Awesome! How do you get 2 months off? What do you do? I was thinking you were in school...but I might be wrong. Either way enjoy this time!

Woo hoo, break! Hope your Canada Day was awesome!

Perhaps it's a result of being an only child, but I've always been really good at finding things to do, creating projects, that sort of thing. Over the next two months when I'm working less than usual, I'm developing recipes for a book, working toward my grade 9 in piano, and I'm even going to busk with one of the guitar teachers I work with! It's all going to be so much fun. :)

I can't imagine 2 hours with no responsibilities, never mind 2 months! I am so jealous. Truly.

I think I'd catch up on my DVR and read all the books I've had on my list. And maybe learn to cook something edible. And take a trip!

Enjoy my friend!

I'd get a part-time job b/c I don't do well with free time. But that kind of defeats the purspose, doesn't it? I hope you find something exciting to do!

Thank you for the Jill Barber rec...I may have to get some of her stuff on iTunes. Just my kind of music.
My sister has a teacher's schedule too (she is an aide for handicapped kids, specifically hearing impaired as she is deaf) and she also tends to get bored in the summer. She usually ends up looking after our cousin's kids alot. I personally couldn't handle so much time off...I'm a med lab tech and a shift worker and happy with my now five weeks of vacation spread out a week every few months. A week is plenty for me, I feel out of the loop if I'm away too long since stuff changes all the time and there's always so much to keep up with. I don't know how part timers do it. I also never take time in the summer...I refuse to fight for time with everyone and I'm happy to take a week in spring and fall.

I would get 8 hours of sleep every night, run in the mornings, try new recipes, spend time at my parents' lake house, travel, and read! Enjoy your time off!!!

And that rhubarb drink sounds awesome. I love rhubarb!
