Feels Like Home ...

It feels like summer in Regina!

Time to bring out my shorts, tanks, and sandals. I am LOVING it!

When the warm weather kicks in there is nothing I want to do more than go CAMPING! If you imagined me as a city girl, you are somewhat right ... but I am truly an outdoorsy, country girl at heart. I was born and raised on a farm in 'the middle of nowhere', Saskatchewan. My parents ran a summer camp called Ranger Lake Bible Camp, and we lived at the camp (in a house, not a cabin) :-)

There is nothing that feels more like home to me than the smell of the woods, and a roaring campfire. I never have a better sleep than the sleeps I have in a tent outside surrounded by trees, birds, and fresh air. For these reasons, camping is the holiday that I look forward to the most.

For this summer the hubby and I, along with 6-8 close friends, have 3 camping trips planned. Our first camping trip will be on the May long weekend (Victoria Day in Canada). The May camping trip is always my favourite because there are no bugs, it is not too hot, and I know it is only the beginning of a great summer to come.

On to the foodie portion of my blog ...

Breakfast was a veggie omelet with some cheddar cheese. Confession: I am TERRIBLE at making omelets. I have only successfully held them together twice. I know the secret is to use a smaller pan, and more eggs, but I keep going against that wisdom hoping it will work anyway. It never does.

The hubby, on the other hand, can make a killer omelet.

Lunch was 1 cup of vegetable soup, with 2 oranges, 1/2 cup strawberries, and a glo-bar:

Dinner was margarita pizza (courtesy of Costco):

I was craving something decadent for dessert ...

(1 square of dark Lindt chocolate with sea salt)

(2 organic figs with 2 oz goat cheese - a match made in foodie heaven)

Do you enjoy camping? Are you a tent person, or a camper/trailer person?
What kind of food do you cook when camping?

Lindt with sea salt is my favorite!!

I have never been camping. I don't think it would be a great idea for me. :)

I love it when the weather starts to get hot, too! I love summer, for me it's about swimming, walking and relaxing.

As for camping... it's just not my thing. I'm not much of a country girl. I never used to camp as a kid, and the first time I ever slept in a tent I didn't really like it. :(

I really hope my husband and I are able to go camping this summer!

I can't make omelet's either! The husband is a master at them though, so I always ask him to make me one. I haven't been camping in such a long time, but I remember really liking it!

Oh, the camping question. I am NOT, repeat NOT, a camper. Tried it once and it was awful. At least not the tent.

Camping is one of my many lovess. I used to go at least 3 times a summer with my daddy (but now im married so I have to work and dont have the time. lame). I refuse to sleep in an rv, thats just not camping to me. We always tent it up, with lots of fire wood ans right next to the river. Oh i am so jealous you get to go soon! When we camp we usually dont eat real meals, usually sandwhiches. Sometimes though my daddy brings his electric grill and makes us something special :)

I have to admit that I always sleep better when I'm camping. You can't beat fresh air for a good sleep. I've never slept in a camper so I guess I'm a tent person. My husband and I went camping fr just one night with some of his family and slept in the back of our Subaru. I'll take a tent over the Subaru any day.

I loveeeeeeee camping too!! So much fun! I have always camped in a tent, until 2 years ago, when we bored a trailer, now I'm converted... I got such a better sleep and it made the whole trip so much more enjoyable!! :)

As for food, I haven't been camping since I became dairy free, so it will be interesting!!
Eggs and smores are both in the mix for me though!!

I LOVE camping too!!! I am also a country girl at heart and cannot wait to go camping this summer. Me and Eric tent it but my parents have a huge fifth wheel that's bigger then my apartment and can't really be considered "camping"! Haha

I am definitely NOT a camping girl!! I love being in a city. There's something about dirt and bugs I hate. Although I DO LOVE roasting marshmallows and making S'mmores. That actually might be enough to convince me to go!

I think I would enjoy camping with several different couples so we could all sit around talking, drinking, eating, laughing, etc. My absolute favorite camping food are smores!!! MMMMM.... you just can't beat it! Messy and so delicious!
