Weekend In

Aside from a Friday evening with friends and a trip to the movie theater to see Ted (which was awesome by the way), this long weekend was a lazy one spent at home sipping bevvies, watching movies, cooking at all hours (the BBQ was fired up around midnight on more than one occasion) and eating.

If you haven't grilled halloumi cheese before, you have to try it!  It is a medium-firm cheese with a very high melting point.  You can grill it up until it is nice and brown and it won't melt.  It has a mild salty flavour, similar to feta but a little more mild.  It tasted great combined with portabella mushroom (the cheese is at the back of the plate beside the mushroom).  Also on the plate, shrimp, scallops and rainbow trout.

Dinner on Saturday night was a stuffed pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and salad.

The pork was stuffed with garlic, gruyere cheese, basil and mushrooms.

One of my favourite meals of the weekend was kimchi hotdogs (BBQd hotdog with red onion, chopped kimchi, mayo, bacon and mustard).  The kimchi was perfect on the hotdog ... much better than sauerkraut.

I tried making quiche for the first time, using this recipe.  I switched it up a bit, just using whatever veggies I had on hand, and replacing the cheese with Parmesan.

Served with bacon and some cherries, it was a perfect, well rounded breakfast.

As you may know already I like my bacon almost burnt.  If it bends instead of snapping, it is not done enough for me.

Some of the leftover bacon from the weekend was used on toasted tomato sandwiches today.

Have you ever grilled halloumi cheese?  Do you like hotdogs?
What was the best thing you ate all weekend?

Wow, I love these posts of endless food. I NEVER thought kimchi would be good on a hot dog but it would give it a nice taste. In a day I'll be eating kimchi and garlic, nonstop!!! Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation Jolene. I'll be sure to pop by your site while I'm in Korea.

I have never grilled cheese period! And I love hotdogs. I know they should gross me out, but I love them.

The best thing I ate all weekend was the steak I grilled on Sunday night! Yum!!

I do like hot dogs! I can't eat them if I think too much about it, but if they're "all beef, natural and organic" I pretend there's nothing gross about them and chow down, haha. That grilled cheese sounds beyond amazing.

Ha ha ha to midnight barbecuing, that's pretty hardcore. I'm also not surprised that you preferred kimchi on a hot dog instead of sauerkraut, you seem to be a kimchi fiend. :) I don't know which I prefer! A plus side of kimchi is its spiciness though.

Quiche is something that I've been meaning to experiment with for our Sunday brunches! That one you made looks gorgeous!
