The worst part of a vacation is flying home at the end of it. Flying is great when you are starting a vacation, but a chore when you are ending one.
We tried to keep our eats interesting on the way home. We grabbed a snack from Auntie Anne's in LGA.
I loved the bags and napkins from this place.
I saw the snack in the "eat this" section of my magazine on flight :-)
I am easily amused.
At some point on the flight home we dug into this Russian Coffee Cake from Zabars.
In the Chicago airport we had to have some deep dish pizza.
All we could find was crappy deep dish pizza, but we were "in" Chicago for the first time and felt the need to buy it anyway.
We made it home in the early evening and only had to pay $150 tax after going waaaaaaay over our exemption limit. Luckily we were charged no duty. I hate going through customs. So much. I get incredibly nervous, and even when I am being 100% honest, I shake, and stutter, and become a blubbering idiot.
I think flying home from vacation is bad, and customs is awful ... but then I remember I have to unpack. Ughhh #firstworldproblems.
How do you feel at the end of a vacation? Ready to come home, or depressed that the vacation is over?

Oh Chicago has such great food - sorry you picked a disappointing option!
I had this whole conversation with a good friend a couple of years ago. We were like we don't get people who say, "Yea, vacation was great, but it's really nice to be home." Personally I could stay on vacation forever. The only thing I do like is having my own bed, but other than that I love to travel and definitely get a bit of post vacation blues.
PS- IMO Chicago is the second best city in America after New York. You should visit sometime if you get a chance.
I think it depends on the vacation - at the end of my honeymoon, I didn't want to come home, but after a 3 day vacation to the shore last summer, I was more than ready to leave!
Ugh, I have spent a lot of time in the Chicago airports and the food options kind of suck - especially at Midway. That's a bummer that you didn't get to experience delicious Chicago-style pizza!
Sounds like a wonderful trip! It depends on the vacation, but i am usually ready to get back to my routine. But when i come home from Paris, I tend to get into a post-vacation funk as i just love that city so so much!
I always felt depressed when I had to go back to Oklahoma, but I love living in DC so much that I'm always excited to go back home. And now that I've gotten older I'm usually so tired it's nice to be back, haha.
I'm glad you made it back safely!
I don't like customs either. The husband always gets stopped and interrogated? WTH? And I get flustered and 2x now have left either my purse or my phone there.. uggg...
It's my first time on your blog and I love it! I'm looking forward to poking around and exploring some more. Glad you had safe travels home--I always HATE going through customs too. And unpacking...my messy suitcase generally kicks around for a week. The end of vacation is saaaad.
I don't like going through customs either. I usually stammer and blush and say really silly things... oh well. It must be the uniforms and stern faces that make me nervous.
On another note, major props on hitting up so many yummy food places in New York! Next time I have the opportunity to go, I'll be referring to your posts for tips! :)
the only place i'm sad to leave is always nyc. I love being on vacation but it feels good to be HOME and have clean clothes! Canadian customs is soooo slowwwww
