Whirlwind Vegas Weekend (Part 3)

Last weekend the hubby and I (and our friends from California) ate at Thomas Keller's Bouchon in the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas.

We had a lovely outdoor seat with a great view.

There were plenty of carbs to go around, each one better than the last (which was hard to believe).  I only nibbled a bit because I was saving room for my main course:

I ordered something I have been wanting to try for about a year - a Croque Madame.  It is a hot ham and cheese sandwich topped with a fried egg and Bechamel sauce.

It was HUGE, and came with a ridiculous pile of fries that I barely made a dent into.  Unfortunately the sandwich did not live up to my expectations.
I think it would be better made at home, with less meat, and grilled bread.

Have you ever had a Croque Madame sandwich?
Was there ever a food/dish that you were dying to try for a long time, and when you finally did, you were disappointed?

I recently tried a 'Croque Monsieur' at a local restaurant we went ot a few weeks ago. It was described as: Black forest ham, gruyere cheese and Béchamel sauce on artisan bread (Sounds abut the same as your dish but without the egg). And I agree, it did NOT live up to expectations! It was just too heavy without enough flavor for me... But those fries look yummy!

I can't believe my answer involves dessert... but I remember being kinda bummed the first time I tried Creme Brulee last year. I like the crusty top, but after that, it was kinda boring. I like my desserts with sauces or sprinkles!

Sometimes I get myself really psyched up for chocolate-y things, and they end up being too bitter and not meeting my expectations. Being disappointed with food is the worst. Especially when you are at a restaurant. When I cook things for myself I am used to disappointment.

I've never had that kind of sandwich but it stinks that it didn't live up to the expectation. It's a bummer when that happens!

I've never even heard of it, but now I'm curious. Sorry it wasn't that great though!

What is that chocolate dip?? it looks crazy good.

I'm sorry your dream sandwich was disappointing - maybe try making one at home, it will taste better guaranteed :)

I'm sorry you didn't get a fab meal! I got the chicken and waffles there and the bread basket. So good. :(

I'm so sorry Bouchon's sandwich didn't live up to your expectations! I just commented in your previous post that Bouchon in NYC is one of my favorite restaurants...you'll have to give it another try!
