Addicted and 10 on Tuesday

It was bound to happen.  I am addicted to juicing.  Again.

I juiced half of a cantaloupe, 1 apple, and 4 strawberries this morning.  I enjoyed it with 1 piece of French toast.

 


I am also addicted to cilantro.  But you knew that :-)


Lunch was chicken noodle soup and an orange, and then for dinner we had trout and quinoa (red and white mixture) topped with pico de cilantro gallo.  

I dumped ALL of this into my portion.



It wasn't enough. 

I added some of this spice to the quinoa:


 
BOOOOOM.

10 on Tuesday: Foodie Edition

1. What is a food that you never thought you would try, but then tried and liked?
I never thought I would try a peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich, but I did and liked it.

2. Do you subscribe to any foodie publications? If so, which ones?
I subscribe to: Bon Appetit, Food Network Magazine and Fine Cooking
 
3. What ingredient do you find yourself reaching for the most when you cook? Cumin.


4. Are there any foods that you hated as a child, but then learned to like as an adult? Olives, shrimp, and most other seafood.


5. What do you like to eat that others may consider weird? About 1 T of ketchup stirred into my homemade chicken noodle soup.  You HAVE to try it.  It does not make the soup taste like ketchup. I also like chia seeds, PB in Source brand vanilla yogurt, etc. etc..


6. What is the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever cooked with? I am not sure what is weird anymore and what is not ... perhaps chia seeds!?


7. Do you have any major food allergies? Nope.  But the last couple of times I ate pomegranate arils plain, they made my mouth itch a little - weird!


8. Is there an ingredient that you would like to cook with, but are intimidated to try? A whole fish (with head on).


9. Do you bake? Yes, but I prefer to cook.  I also rarely eat my baking, because I would prefer to eat something else.  Like cheese.


10. If you could go on any “foodie” show to compete, which one would it be, and why? Iron chef.  I would want the theme to be either: bacon, Gruyere cheese or lime.

Haha, I love the brand name for that spice rub! And cilantro makes absolutely everything better. I knew a girl in college though who refused to touch it - she said it tasted like dishwater! Insane child!

Foods I hated as a child but learned to like/love as an adult are bell peppers, squash, pineapple and blackeberries... I agree with you on the PB stirred into vanilla yogurt x a million. That is one of the greatest combos ever!

Blueberries are totally one food I hated but now ADORE!! I eat like 2 containers of them a week. Just a tad bit obsessed ;)

I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I cannot cilantro. Just can't stand it. Apparently, for some people, it triggers a mental - a taste reaction - that makes them think SOAPY - and I'm one of those people...And I loved olives as a child, so much so that my neighborhood pizza place would bring me a little bowlful to snack on while we waited for pizza.
I've never done a head-on fish before either, but it sounds like an interesting challenging.

I prefer to bake but unfortunately I prefer to eat my own baking (exclusively). Since I hate to share and I like to make large quantities I don’t eat much of anything else until it’s gone so I don’t bake that often except when I have to give it away. I get a lot of my inspiration from the Food Network and love to watch Ina Garten bake. I catch her show on my iPhone these days because I have live and recorded TV from my DISH Network DVR at home. It really saved my marriage since we don’t like the same shows and my wife would prefer that I don’t watch TV at home. My Slingbox gives me the TV anywhere I go and right now is my most prized possession other than my family.

Mmm fresh juice! I just got my own juicer and so far the only combo I've tried is orange with a bit of mango. So yummy!

The spice I use the most has got to be cinnamon.

I love those questions. I subscribe to Bon Appetit, too. I used to hate broccoli, love it now. Um, I eat a LOT of weird things.

Chia seeds are certainly weird, and I don't want to try them ever. lol.

You should juice cilantro! I wonder if that would be good? Probably not... I miss my juicer. It broke. :(

I didn't like seafood as a kid, either. I still don't really like it that much. I don't like white pepper.

Yes to cheese! But on top of a muffin ;) Can't I have it both ways? :)

I'm not really a fan of Iron Chef. But Top Chef I love (finale on Monday here in Canada!), and Bobby Flay's showdown isn't bad either.

YES to ketchup!!! You'd be amazed at what that red sauce can do to any dish!
