Our Christmas Day

Christmas morning at our house was quiet, dark, and cozy.

After opening presents, we sat around in the living room for hours with cinnamon buns, bacon, and coffee ... and then another round of all three.

Lunch a few hours later was just as relaxed.

In the evening we headed over to Christopher's parents' house.  To keep it simple and easy for everyone, they decided to forgo the big traditional meal and just have snacks.  They had made a turkey the day before, so we used the meat to make sandwiches, and had some dips, etc.

Christmas to us is more about getting together; the big traditional feast isn't important to us.  We loved this snacky idea, and they said they plan to do the same next year.

For adult gifts we just played the stealing game with $20-25 dollar gifts that anyone would like.  It was neat to see what everyone brought, and we all had fun.  The best part of the evening was just sitting in front of the fire, and watching our nieces play.

How was your Christmas day?  Did you do the big meal, or was it more low-key?  Were you at home?  With extended family?

Your Christmas sounds wonderful! It's nice that you had the morning to yourselves to celebrate. We spent the night at Phil's mom's. Unfortunately I came down with a bad chest cold on Christmas Eve and Phil's mom had a cold, too, so we weren't feeling super festive. I stayed in bed until 9 since I felt pretty awful and then we had a slow morning. His mom made a turkey breast with stuffing and mashed potatoes and asparagus. Then we opened gifts and did a dice game with some gifts we all brought. I was so ready to head home at the end of the day as I just wanted to be on my home turf. But I know she loved having us with her for 2 nights as she gets pretty lonely as a widow.
