Dinner Party and Thesis Research

Last night our friends Emma and Dalton had us over for a dinner party to celebrate Dalton's birthday.  We started with some delicious edamame beans with olive salt, lemon, and olive oil.  We also had 2 delicious salads and fresh bread. My favourite salad was this one:

The main course was a cheesy, delicious manicotti.
I loved every bite, and went back for seconds:

We had a huge selection of desserts.  I brought burnt grapes, and some of Angela's pumpkin pie brownie 'cupcakes':

They were the first thing that I baked this fall, and it felt good to get back in the kitchen, if only for a short time.

Today I have a date with this stack of articles:

Dear Thesis Research,

You suck.

How was your weekend?
What was the highlight?

Those cupcakes look...amazing! Wow!

And your burnt grapes, I still want to try that recipe.

Your comments to me about Cakepops and your wedding and the dishes you stored under your bed...loved all those stories :)

That salad and manicotti look delicious! Lately I've been foregoing my sweet tooth in favor of more savory things -- and this looks right up my alley. Although I'm still so intrigued by the burnt grape dish!

This weekend was spent celebrating my husband's 27th birthday. We had a party last night, and are going on a "date" to Starbucks/Barnes & Noble later today.

I'm such a sucker for dessert.. that pumpkin brownie, looks so yummy... my weekend consisted of cleaning and organizing my closet :-) nothing eventful... good luck with your thesis

So that's what pumpkin recipe you made, eh? I've had that recipe bookmarked for at least a year, and I always wonder why I haven't tried making it yet. I love that you made it into cupcakes!

Looks like you guys had a great dinner party, weekends always seem to fly by way too fast. Jamming with my band is the highlight every weekend, though - not fancy but super fun. :)

That stack of articles makes ME want to cry just thinking about you having to read them all! Yikes...

Highlight of my weekend was getting to have dinner (and wine) with my whole family Sunday night. Doesn't happen too often, so I appreciate it so much more when our schedules all line up!

My weekend was okay. Sports got me down, but the highlight was having a chance to relax and be a little lazy.

I had an amazing weekend! I even did some baking Sunday, and we had a pumpkin roll for dessert (Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll from allrecipes). I'm goingn to have to get studying, though, and I have a presentation to prepare for Thursday. Still, I'll take that over going through your stack of articles. Yikes!

Just think how relieved you'll be after you're done writing your thesis! That seems to work for me when I'm dreading something.
