Five on Friday

1)  Last week we ate at Sparky's, because we had heard good things about their pizza.

It was pretty good, but not the best I've had.  Dinner was followed by a fun night out at Noise Fest, a first-annual music event in the city.

2)  Breakfast recently was a toasted tomato sandwich for me ... and toast for the boy (almond butter with tomato doesn't go together, but he thinks it does):

3)  We realized last week that it had been a while since we had Korean food.  Eeeeeeep!  We made tteokbokki and bee bim bop immediately.

4)  I'm so happy it's nice enough to BBQ regularly!  We threw a chicken on the grill the other day.  On the side, we had zucchini and potatoes.

5)  I am hooked on Christopher's fabulous, homemade French friesHooked.

He likes making me snacks.  That's A-Okay with me!!

I also love Swiss Chalet's fries, but that's another story.

Ummm, and their chicken.  Hellllllo!!

And let's not get me started on the sauce.  I won't stop.

Five on Friday

1)  When we cook fish, it's usually salmon.  Recently, however, we cooked up some halibut, which we served with spiced quinoa and a salad:

2)  The first time I ever had shepherd's pie was in my 20s, and it was from Costco.  My family just never made this when I was growing up (Christopher's did though).  We decided to make a homemade version the other day, and it turned out great.

It's definitely better homemade!

3)  Tonight we're headed out to see Kenny vs Spenny.  They are on tour, but we're not exactly sure what to expect at a live show with them.  It should be a fun time!

4)  We went to Tony Roma's for dinner on Monday.  Now I remember why we rarely eat at chain restaurants.  We were not impressed.

At least the soup we shared to start was pretty good:

5)  We don't usually go out to eat too much, unless we're out of town, but tomorrow we're headed out again - this time to a nicer restaurant.  It should be a pretty great weekend!

What are you up to tonight?  Tomorrow night?

Five on Friday

1)  We've been eating a lot of Greek yogurt lately.  We always top it with bee pollen, and chia seeds:

And then some cacao nibs:

And fruit:

2)  Greek yogurt makes a great addition to breakfast, with toasted homemade bread, coffee, and freshly juiced fruits and veggies.

3)  On Sundays we often make a big batch of a meal or two so that we have lunches for the week.  This week I made a big pot of beef stew with dumplings, and a pot of soup.  It has been a cold week, and these hearty foods were perfect.

4)  We very, very rarely eat fast food.  Last week we ate KFC for the first time in two years.  We got the 8 piece chicken with a medium fries, "salads" and gravy, and we ate this for dinner twice, and still couldn't finish all the fries!  Now that we got our fill for KFC, I'm guessing it will be about three years before we have it again.

Yum!!
First night portion
Leftovers the next day ... still couldn't eat it all!
5)  We believe it's okay to eat fast food once in a blue moon ... especially when the majority of the time, we are loading up on fresh fruits and vegetables, and juicing regularly:

Five on Friday

1)  I'm not one to buy products from home based parties ... in fact, I don't even attend these parties;  however, occasionally I'll happen upon a product from one of these companies that I end up really liking.  Christopher often delivers to the same homes or business quite regularly, and one kind woman gives him Epicure products every Christmas.  One thing he received this year was this mustard:

It is sooooo good!  We have been enjoying it with mini meatballs.

2)  The weekend following Christmas, we went to Saskatoon (more on that in the next post).  When we drove back into town, we stopped at Christopher's parents' house so he could shovel their walk for them, and they invited us to stay for roast beef dinner - mmmmmm!  It had been years since I had roast beef dinner, so I was pretty excited.

3)  The 25 most popular food trucks for 2013 ... and 9 of them are in NYC!

4)  Cora's seems to be a pretty popular breakfast joint.  We just got one in Regina recently and it's been lined up every day.  A friend and I decided to try getting in on Monday, and were able to after a 30 minute wait.

I don't see what the big deal is ... the food was average, and the service wasn't great.  The waitress dropped a piece of bacon on the floor right in front of our table, picked it up and took it away, but never replaced it!?  It's not that I needed the extra piece of bacon, but she should have at least offered to replace it.

5)  It's become a bit of a tradition for us to stay in on New Years Eve and cook up a seafood feast.  This New Years we started with escargot, tuna sashimi, and assorted cheeses:

The main course consisted of lobster, king crab, tiger shrimp, roasted asparagus, and bread.

What did you do on New Years Eve?

Five on Friday

1)  Last night we ate some of our homemade perogies.  We fried them up with some butter and onions, and then topped them with sour cream, green onions and hot sauce.

2)  We've been living in a deep freeze all week.  Fortunately Christopher's heating system in his car broke last week instead of this week!  It was fixed on Friday, just in time for us to move to Antarctica.

3)  We rarely order in, but tonight we're ordering Chinese food!  I'm excited!  It's been ages since I've had a chicken ball.

4)  I rocked the leg warmers today.  They were necessary.  And I pretty much love 80s clothing.

5)  We have a fun day planned tomorrow ... picking up mead, breakfast, fancy coffees, setting up the Christmas tree and decorations, drumming and then a friend's birthday dinner.

What are your five on Friday?

Five on Friday

1)  On Sunday evening I did some cooking so we'd have dinner for that evening, as well as some lunches for the first part of the week.  I made beef stew with dumplings, and stuffed pasta shells.

2)  Last weekend we did some yard work, but since most of the leaves have not fallen yet, I see more yard work in the future.

3)  Red Lobster dinner:

4)  Lovin' my new coffee mug from Christopher's parents:

5)  I always hated Hamburger Helper as a kid.  We had it every once in a while when we needed something quick and easy, and I thought it was narrrrrrsty.  Yesterday we needed a quick dinner, and had a cheesy Tuna Helper, which I thought was pretty darn good!  We added peas, because we like peas.
