Lunch Guests

We had Victoria and William, two of our favourite people in the world, over for lunch today.

Will is trying to be grumpy ... but he's not very good at it.

We prepped yesterday, so we didn't have much to do this morning.

We started with some cheese and crackers ...

And Indian cilantro squares ...

Then we had clam chowder and shrimp po boys.

We're still waiting on a replacement element for our oven, so we had a store-bought dessert.

It was so nice to catch up with our family that we hadn't really chatted with since just before Christmas - the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

How was your weekend?
Are you watching the Grammy Awards tonight?  Walking Dead?
(We're taping both).

Weekend Things

On Friday evening we went out to Victoria's Tavern to celebrate our buddy Rob's birthday.  We ate some buffalo chicken mac and cheese, and loaded tater tots.

Both dishes were really good.

Today was all about getting things done.  We cleaned the house, got some groceries, and installed a light fixture in the basement.

Christopher is so thorough when he vacuums, which is great, because I prefer not to do it.  When it's time to clean the house, we work together, which makes it take no time at all.

We sipped lemon, orange water all morning ...

And we made a yummy big breakfast ...

For a late lunch we shared a big bowl of pasta with rose sauce.

We're now getting ready to watch a movie, and we'll likely go to bed early.

Tomorrow we're having lunch guests!

How has your weekend been so far?

No Oven

Since the baking element in our oven burned out, we've had to cook all of our food on the stove.  The part is on it's way, but we've been waiting over a week for it now.

Our stove-top eats this week have included a tofu curry with rice:

Snapper and salad:

And chicken with pink mashed potatoes (we mashed potatoes with a beet - this would be perfect for valentine's day!):

I'm happy it's Friday!  We have a fun weekend ahead, with one night on the town, one at home, and lunch with family.

What are you up to this weekend?  Any fun plans?

Nephew Time

Today is our nephew's eighth birthday!  He is the sweetest, funniest, smartest little guy, and we had a great time celebrating with him on Sunday.  We started out at the arcade:

We then played at our house for a while before heading out for sushi

His favourite roll is the one with the most fish eggs!  I've said it before, and I'll say it again ... he's not your average kid!

He made us laugh a lot in between dishes, as he drew silly pictures with hilarious captions.  He's a talented drawer.  It was so cute to see he and Christopher make each other laugh.

Happy birthday Giovanni!  We love you!

Saskatoon Weekend

On Friday after work we took off on the road to Saskatoon to visit my mom.  On the way we shared a pecan pie Cliff Bar.

We stayed in Saskatoon until Sunday afternoon, and ate all of our meals at Aroma, one of our favourite restaurants.

The breakfast salmon (it's not breakfast, but it's ingredients and sides are breakfast inspired) was absolutely incredible:

We were trying to get only new things off of the menu, but I had to choose a few of my favourites as well.

We had a nice couple visits, and a lot of laughs.  It was a great weekend!

How was your weekend?  What did you do?

Friday!

Our eats haven't been too exciting this week; we've just been eating leftovers from the turducken we made on Sunday.  On Tuesday we had a cheesy turducken casserole, which made even more leftovers.

It didn't take long for everything to get eaten up.

In other news, the bottom element in our oven burned out - boo!  Has this ever happened to any of you before?  We won't be cooking anything in the oven until the new part comes in and my handsome handyman, aka Christopher, replaces it.  Until that happens, we'll be cooking with the broiler, or on the stove.

We're looking forward to a weekend in Saskatoon visiting my mom.

What are you up to this weekend?

It was a Dippy Day!

We love staying in all weekend.  When we stay in all weekend, we like to cook a lot, and plan our meals around themes.  This past Saturday we decided to have a dippy day!  All foods would be dipped.

We started with breakfast ...

Lunch was cheese fondue with a bunch of veggies, some bread, mini meatballs, and mini tortellini.  We ate our lunch late, around 4:00 p.m..

For a late dinner we cooked our food on a raclette grill, and dipped it in different sauces:

And for dessert, chocolate fondue was the obvious choice!

What theme should we do next?
