Summer Lovin'

We got some heat this week, and I tried to soak it up.  We practiced our golf swings at the driving range ...

And I hit the pool with my very pregnant friend Alaina (who is in labour at this very moment!) ...

Friday I had lunch with my sister and nephew at Flip.  I had the spinach spaetzle.

On Friday evening our pal Diana was in town, and a bunch of us met up with her for dinner at Grekos.  Christopher and I had the saganaki cheese to start.

I then had a Caesar salad and ribs with potatoes and veggies.

Group shot of the ladies!  I love these girls!

How was your weekend?
Have you been getting outside to enjoy the heat?

Incredible Evening

Last night we had a couple of friends over for dinner before heading out to one of the best concerts I've ever been to.  Dinner started out with some bacon wrapped, stuffed jalapenos.

We also had fried chicken:

Mashed potatoes:

Homemade bread:

And corn:

All together now ... all together now!

This is Donny.

He plays guitar in a band with Christopher.  Everyone say "Hi Donny!":

We were in a bit of a rush and I didn't grab a picture of the dessert ... but it was a cinnamon roll cake.

After dinner we went to see Sir Paul McCartney in concert.  He was a little late getting on stage, but we kept ourselves entertained.

When Paul took the stage he completely blew my mind, song after song, and even played some of my favourites that I wasn't expecting him to play (All Together Now; I've Just Seen a Face).

It was incredible, and I am so happy that we decided to get tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

What is your favourite Beatles (or Wings or Paul) song?  If you could see one person or group (alive today) in concert, who would it be?

What's Up Wednesday?

Yesterday afternoon my friend Alaina and I grabbed iced coffees and had a nice visit as we walked around the lake.  Alaina is pregnant, one week from her due date, and will be the first of my close friends to have a baby - ever!  All of my best friends (who I've known since elementary/ high school) are currently childless, which is crazy since we are all at least 30.

Alaina will make a great tooth-fairy one day ... she already has practice.
Funny thing is once Alaina got pregnant, the ball started rolling for everyone else.  I now have many pregnant friends, and it is surreal.  I don't think it will feel real until this first baby is born, and I start seeing my friends as parents.  Times, they are a changin'.  *Don't get any crazy ideas, Christopher and I are happy to be a family of two.

In other news, we're going to see Paul McCartney in concert tonight!

And, we made a delicious lasagna the other day.  It was even better the next day, warmed up and topped with loads of sriracha.

Do your friends have kids?  How is your week going so far?

Music-Filled Weekend

On Friday evening we ate kimchi topped hotdogs before heading out to see some live music at the Folk Festival, a three day music event.

Feist was headlining, but the show was a bit of a disappointment, and we left mid-set.  On Saturday evening Christopher's band, The Screaming Daisies, played along with some other great bands at a local venue.

Around 10:30 p.m. or so we headed downtown to the Folk Festival to grab some eats (hadn't eaten since breakfast around 11:00!) and to catch the last couple of bands there.

The meatballs and rice from Afghan cuisine (above) were deeeeelish!

It was a great weekend - not many summer weekends left, but I plan on making the most of them!

Do you have a music festival in your city?  Do you attend?

Thursday Things

1)  We ate this for dinner last night, because we've eaten a lot of junk in the past week or two:

2)  We went to the fair on Saturday and shared a bunch of junk food (I also had a corn dog that is not pictured).  I love corn dogs ... like, a lot.

3)  On Sunday evening we had a fire in the backyard, and Christopher may or may not have eaten 5 hotdogs.

4)  We just booked a little vacation for October!  We're headed to Vancouver!!

5)  Breakfasts lately ...

Sometimes just fruit for breakfast ...
Best potatoes ever!
Egg & bacon bagel sandwich; yogurt with cacao nibs, chia seeds, granola and bee pollen
Christopher told me about a year and a half ago that he sucked at making omelets ...
Well for a 1 egg omelet, this looks pretty darn good!  (Yes, we shared a 1 egg omelet ... we're not always gluttons) ;-)
6)  We're going out for dinner with my friends Matt and Alissa tonight, and I am so excited!  I haven't seen them in over 2 years, because they were living in BC.  Actually, I don't think I've seen them since their wedding.

7)  One of my strongest food memories from childhood is of shelling hundreds of pea pods from the garden, and eating then eating a delicious bowl full of the sweet, raw peas.  I saw some at the farmers' market yesterday and just couldn't resist.  I've been eating them by the handful.

What are your Thursday things?

Vegas Adventures

We had a lot of fun in Vegas during the day and in the evenings.  We gambled a bit and had some luck with the video roulette.

One evening was spent enjoying the dueling pianos in NYNY

It was pretty random, but we found out that Wheel of Fortune was being filmed in our hotel and we got free tickets.  It was pretty cool to see Pat and Vanna in person.

We tried out an oxygen bar for the first time, and loved it!  For $22 per person we got re-energized with a flow of oxygen for about a half an hour (they said we could stay as long as we wanted), got aromatherapy treatment, a back massage, and head massage.  It was great!

We soaked up some sun, and enjoyed a bevvie by the pool.

And heard live music while sipping martinis.

But the highlight was definitely shooting guns at The Gun Range.  We found out that we are both pretty darn skilled with guns, as we obliterated the bullseyes on our targets.

We're super excited to shoot guns again next time we are in Vegas!!  Watch out bad guys!

Have you ever shot a gun?  If you haven't would you want to try?
